The Road to Colorado Springs
I set out from Tulsa around 6 a.m., car loaded with snacks, water, and coffee for the long haul west. My route took me along Highway 412 and then north on I-25. There’s not much scenery across the plains when you’re focused on reaching your destination — mostly stretches of highway, gas stops, and the occasional small town that blurs past.
By early afternoon I crossed into New Mexico and could finally feel the landscape starting to change. I stopped in Pueblo for a late lunch along the riverwalk — a quiet break before the final leg. After that, it was just an hour’s drive to Colorado Springs and my hotel for the week. The view from my window made every mile worth it.
